How the money works

Who can use TableCash

You must be 18 or older and a U.S. resident. Organizers can't live in New York; people who live in New York can join a table and chip in. TableCash involves real U.S. dollars.

Terms of Service, Sections 2.3 and 3.1.

The short version

  1. One person, the organizer, starts a table: a shared house, a trip, a gift.
  2. Members chip in by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The money goes straight to the organizer's own Stripe account.
  3. A member can ask for money from the table. The organizer approves or declines, and sends approved money outside the app (Venmo, Cash App or PayPal). The member confirms they got it.
  4. The organizer can cash out to their own bank account.
  5. Everyone at the table sees every dollar that comes in and goes out.

When money can be cashed out

Terms of Service, Sections 5.3, 5.3A and 5.8.

Money sent outside the app

When an organizer approves a request, they pay the member themselves through another app, such as Venmo, Cash App or PayPal. TableCash does not send, process or guarantee that payment. The organizer records it in TableCash, and the member confirms they got it or reports that they didn't. If the member doesn't answer within 9 days, it counts as received. The table's balance only changes once a payment is confirmed.

Terms of Service, Section 5.2.

Refunds

Terms of Service, Sections 5.1, 5.11.7 and 8B.2.

Disputes with your bank

If a charge looks wrong, email support@tablecash.app before you dispute it with your bank. When someone disputes a chip-in, the organizer's Stripe account pays it back: the amount is taken back, and Stripe's dispute fee (usually $15) and the TableCash fee on that chip-in are recorded as due from the organizer. The account of the person who disputed is frozen. Only chip in to tables run by people you know and trust.

Terms of Service, Sections 5.7 and 8A.

Automatic payments

If you turn on autopay, your share is charged each time a new cycle starts, until you cancel. Before every automatic charge we email you the amount, the day and the card, and we charge no sooner than the next day. If your share goes up, autopay stops and asks you first. You can cancel anytime in the app.
